Horween Black Chromexcel is tanned at the Horween Leather Company in Chicago — a tannery that has been running for over a century. Black Chromexcel is one of their signature leathers, produced through a combination of chrome and vegetable tanning, with multiple rounds of oils and waxes worked deep into the hide. The result is a leather that is thick but supple, resistant to scuffs, and one of the rare materials that genuinely improves with wear. The Miner Boot starts here, built on the 9310 last with a full leather lining and natural leather midsole — structured and close-fitting from heel to toe.

The outsole is our proprietary HOMK rubber compound, built for daily traction across varied surfaces. Goodyear welt construction binds the upper, lining, and outsole through a triple-layer stitch — a method that holds its structure over years of use and allows the sole to be replaced when the time comes. A good boot should outlast its first pair of soles.

The antique brass hardware is finished with a deliberate dullness that deepens as it oxidizes over time. Every pair is assembled by hand, with no shortcuts taken where the details matter.
